Blown-In Insulation in Ontario

If your attic was insulated more than 15 years ago, there's a near-100% chance it's underperforming. Old fiberglass batts settle and gap. Blown-in insulation is the answer: machine-blown loose fill that flows into every joist bay and corner.

FAQ

Common questions about blown-in insulation

How deep should blown-in insulation be?

For R-60 in Ontario attics, you need approximately 16-18 inches of cellulose or 17-19 inches of fiberglass. Building code minimum is R-60 for new construction.

Will blown-in insulation settle?

Quality cellulose settles 10-20% in the first months — we install with that factored in so you end at the rated R-value. Fiberglass barely settles at all.

Can you blow over existing insulation?

If the existing insulation is dry, uncontaminated, and free of pests, yes — we can blow new insulation right over top.

Is cellulose insulation a fire hazard?

No. Cellulose is treated with borate fire retardants, achieving Class 1 fire rating. It is actually more fire-resistant than fiberglass batts in cavity tests.

How it works

How Blown-In Insulation Works

Blown-in insulation is installed with a hose that fills cavities to an exact depth, conforming around wires, pipes and framing that pre-cut batts leave gapped. We install cellulose (recycled, dense, ~R-3.5 per inch) and fiberglass (~R-3.2 per inch), choosing based on your attic and budget.

It is the fastest, most affordable route to Ontario's R-60 attic code, and it layers cleanly over existing insulation. For enclosed walls, our drill-and-fill method adds insulation without tearing out drywall.
